We follow the Pathways to Write and Pathways to Read scheme. In writing, in Autumn 1, we will explore the book "Counting on Katherine" by Helaine Becker. Our writing outcome will be writing a recount. In Autumn 2, we will be discovering the book "Leon and The Place Between" by Grahame Baker Smith & Angela Mcallister. We will be writing a narrative.
In Guided Reading, in Autumn 1, we will be exploring the Book "A World Full of Animal Stories 50 Folktales and Legends" by Angela McAllister. We will be learning how to use our inference skills to comment on character’s behaviour and actions. In Autumn 2, we will be reading "The Train to Impossible Places" by P.G. Bell. We will be learning to draw inferences about characters.
We have our classroom doors open from 8:30am – 8:45am each Friday to welcome you in to read with us.
At school, we follow the Power Maths scheme. This term we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction operations and multiplication and division.
We want your children to become competent mathematicians and to have a good understanding of numbers and maths calculations (+, -, x and ÷).
Please help your child to count in steps and practise times tables at home. It is important that children fluently know their multiplication and division facts matching the 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10 times tables.
This term our topic is “What do we have in common with Eastern Europe?”
During our Topic lessons, we will be locating the world’s countries. We will be using our map skills and our knowledge from year 3, to discuss human and physical features of Europe. We will be recapping 8 point compasses and using 4 figure coordinates to locate features. We will be looking at climates and we will be creating a weather chart.
Science/Design Technology/Art and Design
In Science we will be learning about Living things and their habitats. We will be looking at classifying animals depending on their habitats and how animals adapt to their habitat. We will link this with our Reading book ‘A world full of animal stories’ In Autumn 2, we will be looking at electricity. We will learn about electrical components and simple circuits. We will link this to our Design Technology lessons, in which we will design and make an alarm system. In Art, we will be drawing through story telling.
Homework is an important part of a child's learning. It helps to consolidate what is being taught and promotes independence and organisation. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child's homework tasks are completed.
