Maths
At school, we follow the Power Maths scheme. This term we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction operations and multiplication and division.
We want your children to become competent mathematicians and to have a good understanding of numbers and maths calculations (+, -, x and ÷).
Please help your child to count in steps and practise times tables at home. It is important that children fluently know their multiplication and division facts matching the 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10 times tables.
Topic
This term our topic is “What do we have in common with Eastern Europe?”
During our Topic lessons, we will be locating the world’s countries. We will be using our map skills and our knowledge from year 3, to discuss human and physical features of Europe. We will be recapping 8 point compasses and using 4 figure coordinates to locate features. We will be looking at climates and we will be creating a weather chart.
Science/Design Technology/Art and Design
In Science we will be learning about Living things and their habitats. We will be looking at classifying animals depending on their habitats and how animals adapt to their habitat. We will link this with our Reading book ‘A world full of animal stories’ In Autumn 2, we will be looking at electricity. We will learn about electrical components and simple circuits. We will link this to our Design Technology lessons, in which we will design and make an alarm system. In Art, we will be drawing through story telling.
HOMEWORK
Homework is an important part of a child's learning. It helps to consolidate what is being taught and promotes independence and organisation. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child's homework tasks are completed.
Children are required to read daily, and record on Boom Reader (Go Read) (online) at least 3 times a week, as part of their homework to improve their basic reading skills. Children have access to logins for Boom Reader (Go Read).
They also need to practise their weekly spellings which will be given out on a Monday.
It is important that children fluently know their multiplication and division facts matching the 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10 times tables. Children are required to practise their times tables at home. They have logins for Times table rock stars to practise these facts.
