Curriculum Overview: Autumn Term
We follow the Pathways to Write and Pathways to Read schemes. In writing, in Autumn 1, we will explore the book ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin. Our writing outcome will be writing a letter. In Autumn 2, we will be discovering the book ‘Winter’s Child’ by Angela McAllister. We will be writing a narrative.
In Guided Reading, in Autumn 1, we will be exploring The Book ‘The Sea Book’, by Charlotte Milner. This will link with our English book ‘Seal Surfer’. We will discuss the features of this nonfiction text and discuss how this helps the reader. We will be using our retrieval skills to collect information. In Autumn 2, we will be reading ‘The Ice Palace’ by Robert Swindells. We will be learning to draw inferences about characters.
At school, we follow the Power Maths scheme. This term we will be focusing on place value. We will be learning about addition, subtraction , multiplication and division operations.
We want your children to become competent mathematicians and to have a good understanding of numbers and maths calculations (+, -, x and ÷). Please help your child to count in steps and practise times tables at home. It is important that children fluently know their multiplication and division facts matching the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables.
In Science we will be learning about Animals including Humans. We will be looking at what humans need to survive and how our skeletons and muscles help us to move.

This term our topic is “Where is Crewe and how has it changed?” We will be learning about UK cities and discussing how our local area has changed over times. We will learn about physical and human features and how the features of Crewe have changed over time.
