Our Academy

OUR ACADEMY

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your child to St. Michael's  Community Academy, which is part of the St. Bart's Multi-Academy Trust.

Choosing your child’s school is one of the most important decisions you will ever make as a parent.  As an academy at the centre of our local community, our fundamental aim is to promote positive attitudes towards learning, tolerance and respect for one another,  and pride in what we do. We encourage children to always do the best that they are capable of, and we value the contribution of everyone.

From the minute you step inside our academy, you will see that we all work towards these aims, and our school motto is "Our best. Always"  Every child and adult is encouraged to flourish and reach their full potential regardless of age, gender, ability or faith and we do this together, as a family.

High expectations for good behaviour are fundamental if our children are to develop positive long-term relationships and remain happy and safe. This is one of the many strong areas highlighted in our academy’s most recent Ofsted inspection. We expect our pupils to demonstrate our school’s values and high expectations through good behaviour, showing respect for adults and for each other. We encourage our pupils to work collaboratively, and to show tolerance and sensitivity to the needs of others.

At St. Michael's Community academy, we also recognise the importance of strong relationships with families and our community in order to support children’s learning and celebrate their success. We do this by opening our doors and inviting family, friends and members of the community to share in our achievements, celebrations and learning . We have a vibrant and creative curriculum where children’s learning is enhanced by specialist teaching and a wide variety of extra-curricular sporting activities and after-school clubs, for pupils in all key stages.

IQM Centre of Excellence Award logo - Purple - Pantone Ref. 2685c.jpg

We are proud to report that we were awarded  Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence status in July 2021 in recognition of the inclusive ethos that is reflected across our school. In July 2022 we were recognised as a centre of excellence, and we will be expected to contribute to the development of inclusive practice across the North West region, and to offer support and guidance to other schools in their own journey. Our Centre of Excellence status was renewed after the IQM team visited school to complete an audit in June 2023.

In July 2022 we were awarded the Platinum School Games Award for the second time. This award is the result of a lot of hard work by our sports coaches, other school staff and, of course, our children!! The award not only recognises the quality of PE taught at the school, but also the range of competitions, clubs and extra-curricular opportunities that are available for pupils to take part in. We are currently working towards getting our award renewed in the summer of 2024.
