Intent

The Curriculum at St. Michael’s aims to give children the knowledge, skills and opportunities to be successful learners and to prepare them for their future development, both in their own education and as members of society. Our curriculum aims to empower our children to reach their full potential, develop self-confidence and pursue interest in a wide range of subject areas.

Through a broad learning programme the children build on prior knowledge and are immersed in subject specific lessons that develop their skills in each area. Our children learn to become Historians, Geographers, Artists and Designers. They learn to be scientists, mathematicians and writers. They learn to participate in sports, work in teams and reflect on the ideas, opinions and values of others.

Through the widespread use of technology we aim to open opportunities for children to develop as independent and critical learners, using the format they feel is best to showcase their knowledge and understanding.

Parents are welcome to contact the school at any time to make an appointment to come in and discuss the school curriculum with either your child’s class teacher or with a senior member of staff.

Our teachers and support staff are passionate about what they do, and are well qualified, experienced and committed. We also benefit from firmly established family support and inclusion teams.

As a key part of our curriculum offer, we aim to provide a rich range of experiences and opportunities for our pupils during their journey through our school. These can take a variety of forms, ranging from visits to places of interest, participation in organised sports, team building, outdoor education, residential visits, playing an instrument, or performing Shakespeare. We track these experiences for each pupil via our Cultural Capital passport.
