At St. Michael’s, we take great pride in providing tremendous support for our children and their families. We have a dedicated pastoral team consisting of two health care professionals from school nursing backgrounds, who ensure that each and every child feels safe and is able to fully access the learning opportunities available to them.
The nurses promote the health and wellbeing of children and families, both at home and in school, and give the specific support and health advice to children and families. They support children in school who have complex health needs and coordinate school and community health activities, serving as a liaison between the home, school and wider community.
At St. Michael’s we have high expectations regarding attendance (96% and above). It is important that we aim for 100% attendance, although we do understand that children may be absent due to genuine illness.
Regular school attendance is an important part of giving your child the best start in life both academically and socially. We operate a first day calling policy. This means that where attendance is unexplained, we will contact parents to establish the reason for the absence. This is to ensure that all children have arrived safely in school. Your co-operation is essential. Holidays during term time are actively discouraged and would not be authorised, except in exceptional and unique circumstances.

At St. Michael’s our highly skilled staff also run before and after school provision providing wrap-around care within our Family Centre.
Sessions run from 7:45am until the start of the school day and from the end of the school day until 5:30pm. Sessions are charged at a competitive rate and places are limited. Anyone wishing to book places in the provision should do so by contacting the school office.

Overall Effectiveness of the School
This highly successful school provides an excellent standard of education for its pupils. A very strong focus on the learning and personal needs of each individual underpins all of its work and ensures a high quality of care, guidance and support.
Parents recognise this. It is summed up really well in one parental comment, which echoes the views of many: ‘It’s not a school, it’s one big family. Every child matters and is praised for their merit.’ The fun and enjoyment pupils get out of learning are the key to their excellent achievement in this happy, extremely well led and managed school. All of this starts in the Foundation Stage, where the quality of provision is outstanding.
