At St. Michael’s Community Academy we want all of our children to be independent and inquisitive learners. We place great emphasis on supporting children to develop their confidence, interpersonal and self-esteem skills. We promote emotional well-being as this is linked very closely to the ability to communicate and interact with others in a positive way. We believe that happy and settled children will learn and reach their full potential. Children are encouraged to take risks, explore and investigate, to question and to develop their own ideas.
Learning should be fun and therefore learning through play is at the heart of our EYFS. We provide a safe, stimulating and inviting environment where children can experience a wide range of activities and learning opportunities both inside and out.
We are committed to giving our children the best possible start to their school life. We work in partnership with parents, carers and families to ensure their well-being and success in the future.
At St. Michael’s Community Academy we are committed to developing the whole child through a broad and balanced curriculum that challenges, engages and motivates children to learn independently. The Reception environment inspires the children to make their own choices and enables them to demonstrate the characteristics of effective learning:
Playing and exploring
Finding out and exploring
Playing with what they know
Being willing to ‘have a go.’
Active learning
Being involved and concentrating
Keeping trying
Enjoying achieving what they set out to do
Creating and thinking critically
Having their own ideas
Making links
Each child is unique and we respect individuality and encourage independence whilst making learning fun and memorable through purposeful play. The highly qualified and experienced staff plan exciting and innovative activities based on their thorough knowledge of the children’s stage of development and interests. Our provision is further advanced by special visitors including community police officers, mini-beast specialist and planned external visits that develop knowledge and understanding of the world.
